Day 1: Departure for Tbilisi
Day 2: Tbilisi
Early in the morning arrive at Tbilisi, meet at the airport, and transfer to a hotel. After late breakfast, we have a Tbilisi sightseeing tour.
Day 3: Tbilisi – Dmanisi – Tbilisi
Today we drive to the medieval town of Dmanisi – the site of the ongoing excavations where the skulls of the first migrators from Africa and the first inhabitants of Europe were found (1, 7 million years old). Scientists found 2 skulls of 25 years old young man and 15 years old young lady a couple of years ago. Then they found the bones of some African animals and the skull of an elderly man.
The excavations are still taking place and we may get a close approach to how the archeologists work there. We may also visit the museum housing the evidence of the excavation. Later we visit the tiny Bolnisi church important as its stone wall keeps the oldest Georgian inscription (5th century AD).
Day 4: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Gori – Kutaisi
We visit the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta with Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral –UNESCO World Heritage sights.
Then we head to the town of Gori and visit Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC) - the place where the Great Silk Road used to pass. We have a photo stop near Stalin’s house and museum. Afterward, we continue our way to Imereti province to visit the pretty town of Kutaisi.
Day 5: Kutaisi – Batumi – Kutaisi
Today we drive to visit the Black Sea coast city of Batumi. Here we visit the Roman-style Gonio Fortress (1st century AD) and Batumi Archaeology Museum housing hundreds of unearthed items of the ancient times. In the afternoon we have some time to relax on the beach and enjoy the boulevard. Afterward, drive back to Kutaisi.
Day 6: Kutaisi – Tbilisi
In the morning we visit Gelati Monastery and Academy (12th century) and a natural grotto full of breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites.
Then will drive to visit the grotto with stunning stalactites and stalagmites and enjoy time in this mystical part of the land. Later continue to Tbilisi.
Day 7: Land of wine
In the morning we drive to explore the Kakheti region – the homeland of wine. We enjoy superb views of the Great Caucasus Mountains and valleys of Kakheti; acknowledge the century-old traditions and culture of the country and region, and taste wines made of endemic grapes and delicious food. We visit a local farmer’s family to see a hundred-year-old wine cellar, learn more about the ancient Georgian tradition of making home wine, and taste wine straight from the clay jars kept under the ground.
Later we head to a local village to have homemade lunch at a local family with more wine. Then visit a wine factory to get acquainted with the way of producing Georgian wines and taste some manufactured wines in the factory. Afterward, drive to Tbilisi.
